The Marine Ecosystem Exploration Module gives students an opportunity to discover the wonders and importance of marine ecosystems, namely tropical reefs, river ecosystems and coasts both within and outside India at select destinations. With three-fourth of the earth's surface covered in water, understanding the role of marine ecosystems and the impact we have on them is critical to both conservation and sustainable exploration.

This module is designed to not only introduce students to skills such as scuba diving, surfing and kayaking but also to help them learn about coral reefs, tropical marine wildlife and some flagship marine species such as dolphins. 

Marine ecosystems are threatened the world over by a range of issues, such as global warming, rampant coastal development, unsustainable fisheries, garbage, irresponsible tourism, illegal wildlife trade to name a few. With fifty percent of our oxygen coming from the ocean and the key role played by oceans in maintaining climatic balance, it is imperative that students are exposed to the challenges of conserving the marine ecosystems on the planet.

Coastal destinations are amongst the most populated and visited locations in the world and yet remain the most vulnerable to human impact. Students will learn about conservation concerns such as:
- species conservation 
- behavioural ecology 
- coral reef restoration 
- artificial reefs
- responsible tourism
- recycling and mitigating the impacts of oceanic garbage

And also interact with local communities who depend on marine ecosystems for their livelihoods.

1. This module enables teachers to meet the ecological conservation learning outcomes of IGCSE Biology, IB Biology and IB ESS. 

2. Marine ecosystem module can also be run in conjunction with service and sustainability module to facilitate marine conservation.
